About
ClearSteps
One clear step at a time.
Who built it
ClearSteps was built by Justin Brady, LCSW, an experienced licensed clinical social worker.
ClearSteps was created to help you take one clear step at a time to help you manage your anxiety. Built with practical and easy to use tools that you can use at home, work, and on the go.
What it is, and what it is not
It is a 60-second check-in with faces and tags, an optional journal, Progress, and short CBT and DBT coping skills. It is not a chatbot. ClearSteps supports therapy and does not take its place.
It is a private place to check in, see patterns, and use a short coping skill between sessions. If you are in crisis in the U.S., call or text 988.
Privacy
Private to your account
Check-ins, journal notes, skills, and preferences are tied to your signed-in account. Other ClearSteps users cannot open your entries.
Stored in a secure cloud database
Data is saved with Supabase (a managed Postgres database) so it can sync across your devices. Traffic uses HTTPS.
Access controls
Database rules (row-level security) limit each account to its own rows. The browser uses a limited public key; admin keys stay on the server only.
Billing
Billing is handled by Stripe.
What this is not
ClearSteps is not end-to-end encrypted. Trusted operators of the hosting stack (and you, when signed in) can access data needed to run the product. It is not a public social feed for your journal.
Your controls
You can export your entries and delete your account from Account settings. On a shared device, sign out when you’re done.
A therapist cannot see your entries unless you share them. You can add an optional PIN, or a biometric unlock when the browser supports it, so Journal stays closed on this device. Read the privacy policy.
